Hemswell AFB

The airplane departed RAF Hemswell at 1813LT on an operation to Hamburg. Approaching the Dutch coast, it was shot down by the German Flak and crashed into the sea some 5 km off Vlieland Island. All six crew members were killed.

The airplane departed RAF Hemswell at 1803LT on an operation to Hamburg. Passing over the Netherlands, it was shot down by the German Flak and crashed in Drogeham. Four crew members were killed and one became PoW.

The airplane departed RAF Hemswell at 1732LT to lay mines off Lorient. It failed to return to base and is believed to have crashed somewhere into the Bay of Biscay. Lost without trace.

The airplane departed RAF Harwell on a night navigation exercise. In the early morning, while trying to land at RAF Hemswell, the pilot leveled off too early and the undercarriage collapsed following a hard landing. The airplane slid for few dozen metres and came to a halt, bursting into flames. All five crew members escaped uninjured and the airplane was destroyed by a post crash fire.

The airplane departed RAF Hemswell at 1614LT to lay mines off Lorient. Passing over Brest, it was shot down by a German fighter and crashed into sea off the city. All five crew members were killed.

The airplane departed RAF Hemswell at 0330LT on a mine laying operation off Brest, France. A bit more than an hour into the flight, while cruising at night, the airplane flew into a tree and crashed in Barrowby. All five crew members were killed.

The airplane departed RAF Hemswell at 1759LT on a mine laying operation off the Frisian Islands. It was badly shot about by enemy fire and later crashed in Dunmoor Hill. Four crew members were killed and one was injured.

During the takeoff run at RAF Hemswell, the airplane went out of control and skidded through a fence. The airplane was damaged beyond repair and there were no casualties.

The airplane departed RAF Hemswell on December 6 on an operation to Mannheim. While returning to base the following night and flying along the French coast, it was hit by the German Flak. Later, the crew ditched the airplane into the sea off Littlehampton. Two crew members were killed and three others were rescued.

The airplane departed RAF Hemswell at 1704LT on December 6 on an operation to Mannheim. While returning to base the following night, it ran out of fuel and was abandoned by the crew. The airplane crashed near RAF Bolt Head and was destroyed. Three crew parachuted to safety and three others were carried out to the sea due to a stiff off shore breeze and drowned.
