Circumstances:
The airplane departed RAF Hemswell at 0330LT on a mine laying operation off Brest, France. A bit more than an hour into the flight, while cruising at night, the airplane flew into a tree and crashed in Barrowby. All five crew members were killed.

Circumstances:
Passing over Grantham at night, the bomber collided with a Royal Air Force Airspeed Oxford that was completing a training flight with a crew of two on board. The JU.88 dove into the ground and crashed near Barrowby, west of Grantham. All three crew members were killed.
