The airplane was engaged in a SAR operation, looking for an Italian pilot missing from the previous day. While flying north of the Tunisian coast, it was shot down by a British fighter and crashed into the sea north of La Galite Island. All five crew members found refuge in a dinghy and reached Tunisia three days later. The airplane sank and was lost.

Shortly after takeoff, the crew encountered a loss of oil pressure and a high oil temperature on the port engine. It was decided to return to Exmouth. A normal full stall landing was made, but near the end of the landing run, the plane hit large wave, causing it to bounce into the air and on the subsequent landing large quantities of water entered the plane through the bombing window position in the bow. The airplane sank in shallow water (5 metres) and was damaged beyond repair. The pilot was killed and eight other crew members were rescued.

The seaplane was engaged in a bombing practice mission. While dropping a depth charge into a suspected minefield off Trevose Head, Cornwall, the force of the explosion caused multiple damage to the starboard float, aileron and elevator as well a several holes in the hull and wings. In such conditions, the crew decided to ditch the airplane some 60 km off Saint Annes Head. All nine crew members found refuse in dinghies and the airplane sank five minutes after landing.
Probable cause:
Emergency landing in sea after being damaged by debris following a bombing practice flight.
