While on a maritime patrol flight, the right engine suffered a malfunction and the captain was forced to cut it off. The aircraft was ditched in rough sea some 65 km off Cabrera Island. All five crew members were rescued by the crew of the British ship named 'Mirupanu' and disembarked in Oran. The aircraft was later towed but eventually considered as damaged beyond repair.

Failure of the right engine in flight.

Circumstances:
The airplane took off from the Port of Pollença in the early morning, with a second similar aircraft, on a bombing mission over Valencia. Few minutes after takeoff, while cruising in the clouds, the aircraft went out of control and crashed into the sea some 25 km off Cape Formentor. Few debris were found two days later. All five crew members were killed.

The float plane departed Cadiz on a flight to Rome with intermediate stops in Pollença (Balearic Islands) and Alghero, Sardinia, carrying 10 passengers and four crew members. It took off from Pollença around noon. At 1430LT, while cruising over the Mediterranean Sea, the radio operator reported his position and informed ground he was encountering very bad weather conditions with storms. This was the last transmission received from the crew. As the airplane failed to arrive in Alghero, SAR operations were initiated but eventually suspended few days later as no trace of the aircraft nor the 14 occupants was ever found.
