Loening C-2 Air Yacht

Crashed upon landing on a lake and sank. Occupant fate unknown.

The float plane departed Milwaukee harbor at 1510LT on a flight to Muskegon. About 30 minutes into the flight, while cruising at a height of 200 feet in marginal weather conditions, the engine failed, maybe due to a valve issue according to the pilot. The crew reduced his altitude and ditched the airplane. The crew remained sitting in the cabin for about 5 hours when the right pontoon snapped off and the right wing cracked. The ship started to list and the crew get out on the left wing to balance it. Because the waves were hitting the seaplane hard, it cracked and eventually sank. Both pilots Pat Gossett and Ben Craycraft were rescued by the crew of the USCG vessel named 'Escanaba' shortly before midnight.

Shortly after takeoff from Milwaukee-Maitland Field, while climbing to a height of about 20 feet, the engine failed. The airplane stalled and crashed into Lake Michigan. All seven occupants were rescued and the airplane was damaged beyond repair.

Crashed in unknown circumstances into the sea off Montevideo. There were no casualties.

While taking off from the bay of Oakland, the seaplane hit a tug and plunged into the water. All eight occupants were quickly rescued and the aircraft was damaged beyond repair.

Shortly after takeoff from Bremerton harbor, while in initial climb, the seaplane crashed in the Salish Sea, off the Manette Bridge. Both occupants were killed.

On final approach, while completing a last turn, the pilot lost control of the aircraft that stalled and crashed. The pilot was injured.

On final approach to Lake Erie, the pilot encountered low visibility due to foggy conditions. The aircraft hit the ground short of runway and crashed. A passenger was killed while three other occupants were injured.

The airplane was engaged in a survey mission over the Canal zone in Panama and departed San José Airport with two passengers and two crew members, a mechanic and a pilot. As the aircraft was too heavy, one passenger was asked to leave and part of the mail was offloaded as well. On the second attempt to takeoff, the airplane lifted off but was caught by downdrafts, struck trees and crashed. All four occupants were uninjured and the aircraft was destroyed.
