Circumstances:
The airplane departed RAF Lakenheath at 1852LT to lay mines off the mouth of the river Gironde. Shortly after becoming airborne, a serious technical problem developed and the pilot decided to divert to RAF Watton for an emergency landing. On approach, the airplane lost height, collided with trees and crashed in Great Cressingham, about 9 km northeast of RAF Watton. Six crew members were killed and one was injured.

The crew was performing a training exercise at RAF Elsham Wolds. On final approach, the pilot encountered strong winds and lost control of the airplane that crashed short of runway, bursting into flames. Five crew members were killed and a sixth was injured.

While on a supply mission, the crew lost his orientation and was unable to localize his position due to weather deterioration. Few minutes later, both engines failed due to fuel exhaustion. All four crew members decided to abandon the aircraft and bailed out. The airplane dove into the ground and crashed near RAF Newmarket. All four crew members parachuted to safety.
