Shortly after takeoff from Tierp Airport, while climbing to a height of 50 metres, the left engine failed. The airplane stalled and crashed in a field, broke in two and caught fire. Two crew members escaped uninjured while two others were seriously injured.

Approaching Stockholm, weather conditions deteriorated and due to fog, the crew decided to attempt an emergency landing on Fjäturen Lake, 15 km north of Stockholm. The three engine aircraft crashed on the frozen lake and went through the ice before sinking. Both crew members were killed.
