The crew was engaged in a test flight on this four engine aircraft named 'Der grosse Dessauer'. While in an overspeed test configuration, the aircraft suffered a structural failure and went out of control. Two crew members were able to bail out while the third occupant was killed when the aircraft crashed in an open field.

The crew was performing a local post maintenance test flight out from Dessau Airport. Just after liftoff, the four engine aircraft named 'Deutschland' went out of control and crashed. The crew led by Captain Wilhelm Zimmermann was injured and the aircraft was destroyed.

Error on part of the technicians who connected the aileron control cables on the opposite way.
