Royal Air Force - RAF

The airplane departed RAF Warboys on an operation to Kiel. While returning to base and flying along the Dutch coast, it was shot down by a German fighter and crashed into the North Sea some 30 km northwest of Vlieland Island. Three crew members were killed and two others became PoW.

The airplane departed RAF Ingham at 1838LT on an operation to Kiel. While returning to base in the late evening, it was shot down by a German fighter and crashed into the North Sea some 35 km northwest of Texel Island. All six crew members were killed.

The airplane departed RAF Melbourne at 1834LT on an operation to Kiel. In the late evening, while returning to base, it was shot down by a German fighter and crashed into the North Sea some 15 km north of the Schiermonnikoog Island. All seven crew members were killed.

The airplane departed RAF Mildenhall on an operation to Kiel. In the late evening, it was shot down by the German Flak and crashed in Darenwurth, killing the entire crew.

The airplane departed RAF Chedburgh at 1845LT on an operation to Kiel. Approaching the target area, it was shot down by a German fighter and crashed in Felde, some 12 km west southwest of Kiel. Five crew members were killed and two others became PoW.

The crew was performing a night training exercise when weather conditions deteriorated. All crew were instructed to return to base except this crew. Eventually, the pilot attempted to return to base but on final, he encountered very poor visibility due to fog. On approach, the airplane crashed and exploded, killing all six occupants.

The airplane departed RAF Croft at 1828LT on an operation to Kiel. Passing the German coast, it was shot down by the German Flak and crashed in Oxstedt, killing the entire crew.

The airplane departed RAF Grimsby at 1836LT on an operation to Kiel. Over Denmark, it was shot down by the German Flak and crashed in Lintrup. All five crew members parachuted to safety and became PoW.

The crew departed RAF Acaster Malbis at 1945LT on a local training exercise. About 35 minutes later, he initiated the approach after weather conditions deteriorated. On final, in poor visibility, the pilot reduced his altitude from 600 to 100 feet, apparently to establish a visual contact with the ground, when the airplane contacted a tree and crashed in Escrick, some 5 km east of the airbase. Both crew members were seriously injured. The instructor died few hours later and the pupil died 3 days later from injuries sustained.

The airplane departed RAF Pocklington at 1825LT on an operation to Kiel. It returned early with serious radio problems and lacking power from the starboard inner engine. It overshot the runway then stalled and crashed, bursting into flames. All seven crew members were injured.
