Vickers 424 Wellington IV

The crew departed RAF Breighton at 1920LT on a night cross country exercise. After passing over Peterborough, Harwell, Pershore and Sywell, the airplane was returning to base but flew off track. Descending over rising terrain in limited visibility, the airplane impacted a cottage and crashed in the wood of Molly Carr located about 3 km southeast of Huddersfield. All six crew members were killed.

The airplane departed RAF Hemswell at 1719LT on an operation to Brest. It was attacked by a night-fighter while returning to base, and very badly damaged Shrapnel from one of the shells set fire to a flare which exploded inside the aircraft, blowing the astrodome from its mountings and destroying some of the fuselage fabric. The pilot tried to make an emergency landing at Exeter, but was baulked by another aircraft. Unable to maintain control, the Wellington crashed between Pinhoe and Clyst Honiton on the west side of the aerodrome. Four crew members were killed and two others were injured.

The airplane departed RAF Grimsby at 1735LT on an operation to Brest. It failed to return to base and is believed to have crashed somewhere in The Channel. Lost without trace.

The airplane departed RAF Grimsby at 1910LT on an operation to Emden. Flying along the Dutch coast, it was shot down by a German fighter and crashed into the sea off Terschelling. All six crew members were killed.

The airplane departed RAF Holme-on-Spalding-Moor at 0445LT on an operation to Cherbourg. Approaching the target area, it was hit by the German Flak and turned back to base with the bomb load intact. It crashed at 045LT after colliding with high tension cables near Fifefhead Magdalen. Four crew members were killed and two others were injured.
