Vickers 417 Wellington III

The airplane departed RAF Marham at 2329LT on September 1st on an operation to Saarbrücken. Passing over France, it was shot down by a German fighter and crashed in Flize, killing the entire crew.

The following night, while returning to England, it crash landed at RAF Middle Wallop with its undercarriage jammed. Shortly afterwards, some incendiaries fell from the aircraft, and in the ensuing fire, the Wellington was destroyed. There were no injuries.
