Circumstances:
The airplane departed RAF Elsham Wolds at 2031LT on April 13 on an operation to La Spezia. It was hit by the German Flak and forced to ditch in the English Channel off Falmouth, Cornwall. For the next 33 hours the Lancaster remained afloat but during an attempted salvage operation, the bomber sank. All seven crew members were unhurt and rescued.

Circumstances:
The airplane departed RAF Elsham Wolds at 2018LT on April 13 on an operation to La Spezia. While flying southeast of Le Mans, it collided in midair with a second RAF Lancaster registered ED714 and also carrying a crew of seven. Following the collision, both airplanes dove into the ground and crashed in Saint-Mars-d'Outillé. All 14 crew members in both airplanes were killed.

The airplane departed RAF Skellingthorpe at 0016LT on an operation to Frankfurt. It turned back with a technical defect and called requesting permission to jettison the bomb load. This was given and at 0257LT, the crew signaled to say all bombs have been dropped over the sea. At 0310LT, a Royal Observer Corps post reported an aircraft heading inland, but very feint w/t signals were picked up at 0445LT and the Lancaster was the thought to be some 100 km off Skegness. An air sea rescue search was mounted and a few small pieces of wreckage were found in the search area. All seven crew members were killed.
