Bombing

The airplane departed RAF Snaith at 1723LT on an operation to Hamburg. While returning to base in the late evening, the crew encountered heavy snow falls over the north of England. Flying at an altitude of 1,500 feet in poor visibility, the airplane impacted the slope of Mt Cheviot. A crew was killed and five others were seriously injured. The next day, two of the survivors died from injuries sustained.

The airplane departed RAF Hemswell at 1748LT on an operation to Hamburg. While returning to base in the late evening, the pilot became ill and the airplane crashed near RAF Hibaldstow. All six crew members were rescued, among them three were injured.

The airplane departed RAF Elsham Wolds at 1742LT on an operation to Hamburg. It was shot down by the German Flak and crashed in Hollenstedt. Five crew members were killed and a sixth was injured and became PoW.

The airplane departed RAF Coningsby at 1710LT on an operation to Hamburg. Passing off Wilhelmshaven, it was hit by the German Flak. With the starboard engine on fire, the crew evacuated the area bound for Sweden. Eventually, the crew bailed out and abandoned the airplane that crashed in Hostrup, south Denmark. All four crew members became PoW.

The airplane departed RAF Driffield at 1838LT on an operation to Emden. While flying along the Dutch coast, it was shot down by the German Flak and crashed into the sea off Ameland Island. All six crew members were killed.

The airplane departed RAF North Luffenham on January 14 on an operation to Hamburg. While returning to base the following night, it ran out fuel. The crew diverted to RAF Langham but the airplane crashed on approach near the airfield. All four crew members escaped uninjured.

Approaching the coast of County Durham, the bomber was shot down by the British Flak and crashed into the sea. All four crew members were killed.
