Circumstances:
En route from Birżebbuġa to Abukir, while flying along the Libyan coast, the seaplane was shot down by a German fighter and crash landed into the sea near RAF Apollonia. All 12 crew members were rescued, some were injured. A day later, one died from injuries sustained.
