Goubrine AFB

The airplane was engaged in Operation 'Fustian', its purpose was to take paratroops and gliders with troops and equipment to the Primosole Bridge leading from the hills into the Catania region. In unclear circumstances, it crashed into the sea off the target and was lost. All five crew members were rescued.

After its drop, the airplane turned back to base when it was shot down by Flak and was ditched into the sea off Catania. All four crew members were rescued.

The airplane departed Goubrine AFB on a special mission of sabotage behind the enemy lines, operation coded 'Chestnut I'. It failed to return to base and is believed to have been shot down by friendly fire and probably crashed somewhere into the Mediterranean Sea, possible between Malta and Sicily. Lost without trace.

The crew was engaged in a local test flight at Goubrine AFB. On approach, the pilot initiated a go around procedure when the airplane stalled and crashed on a parked Albemarle registered P1552. Both airplanes were destroyed and all four crew members were killed.
