Circumstances:
The airplane was on a transit flight from RAF Portreath to Luqa with an intermediate stop in Gibraltar. Passing south of Porto, the crew encountered an unexpected situation and made an emergency landing near the São Jacinto Airbase. All three crew members became PoW.

The single engine airplane crashed while taking off from São Jacinto AFB while on a local training flight. The pilot 2nd Lt Isidro Martins da Palma Faria was seriously injured and died from his injuries three days later on June 21.
