The seaplane departed RAF Sullom Voe at 0435LT on a reconnaissance mission over the North Sea. It failed to return to base and is believed to have been shot down by enemy fire and to crash some 350 km west of the Norwegian coast. Lost without trace.

The float plane departed RAF Sullom Voe (Shetland Islands) at 1030LT on a reconnaissance mission off the Norwegian coast. En route, the aircraft was shot down by the pilot of a German Heinkel He.111 and crashed into the sea off Bergen. SAR operations did not find any trace of the aircraft nor the nine crewmen.

The aircraft crashed in unknown circumstances in the vicinity of Smøla Island. A dead body was later found but not trace of the aircraft or the rest of the crew. It is believed that the airplane crashed somewhere between Grip and Brattvær.
