Circumstances:
The airplane departed RAF Beaulieu on a maritime patrol flight over the Bay of Biscay. While returning to base and flying northeast of Princetown, the bomber hit the cable of a barrage balloon and crashed in the Dartwood National Park. A crew member was seriously injured while six others were killed.

Circumstances:
The airplane departed RAF Grimsby at 1857LT on October 5 on an operation to Aachen. While returning to base the following night, the crew encountered poor weather conditions when the airplane crashed near Princetown. Four crew members were killed and a fifth was injured.
