The airplane departed RAF Newmarket at 0202LT on an operation to Frankfurt. While returning to base, it was shot down by a German fighter and crashed in Idar-Oberstein. Two crew were killed and six others became PoW.

Circumstances:
The airplane departed Metz on a reconnaissance mission over Hanover. En route, it was shot down by the pilot of a German fighter and entered a dive. A crewman was able to bail out before the aircraft crashed in an openfield. Both other crew members were killed.
