The airplane departed RAF Snaith on the evening of September 8 on an operation to Frankfurt. While returning to base the following night, it ran out of fuel and the crew diverted to RAF Lympne where the airplane crashed on approach. Two crew members were killed and four others were injured.

The airplane departed RAF Downham Market in the evening of August 28 on an operation to Nuremberg. While returning to England the following night, it crashed upon landing at Manston Airfield. Dazzled by the Chance lights, the pilot failed to see a line of parked aircraft until it was too late to prevent a collision. The airplane was destroyed and there were no injuries among the crew.

The crew decided to return to base but was eventually forced to abandon the airplane that became difficult to control. Five crewmen parachuted to safety while two others were killed when the airplane crashed in a wooded area near Canterbury.
