Avro 683 Lancaster

The airplane departed RAF Wickenby on an operation to La Spezia. While flying southeast of Le Mans, it collided in midair with a second RAF Lancaster registered W4828 and also carrying a crew of seven. Following the collision, both airplanes dove into the ground and crashed in Saint-Mars-d'Outillé. All 14 crew members in both airplanes were killed.

The airplane departed RAF Holme-on-Spalding-Moor in the evening on an operation to La Spezia. It returned to base early, having first jettisoned the bomb load off Flamborough Head. While preparing to land, the bomber crashed on the southwest side of the airfield. All seven crew members were killed.

The airplane departed RAF Skellingthorpe at 0016LT on an operation to Frankfurt. It turned back with a technical defect and called requesting permission to jettison the bomb load. This was given and at 0257LT, the crew signaled to say all bombs have been dropped over the sea. At 0310LT, a Royal Observer Corps post reported an aircraft heading inland, but very feint w/t signals were picked up at 0445LT and the Lancaster was the thought to be some 100 km off Skegness. An air sea rescue search was mounted and a few small pieces of wreckage were found in the search area. All seven crew members were killed.

The airplane departed RAF Scampton at 0014LT on an operation to Frankfurt. South of target area, it was shot down by the German Flak and crashed in Eberstadt, 6 km south of Darmstadt. All seven crew members were killed.

The airplane departed RAF Waddington on an operation to Frankfurt. Approaching the target area, it was shot down by the German Flak and crashed near Mainz, west of Frankfurt. All eight crew members were killed.

The airplane departed RAF Grimsby at 2358LT on April 10 on an operation to Frankfurt. It was shot down by a German fighter and crashed in Taben-Rodt, 23 km south of Trier. All seven crew members were killed.

The airplane departed RAF East Wretham at 0050LT on an operation to Frankfurt. Over France, it was shot down by a German fighter and crashed in Le Thour, killing the entire crew.

The airplane departed RAF Swinderby at 2307LT on a night conversion training flight. At 2332LT, while taking off for another circuit, the airplane swung on runway and went out of control. It veered off runway, lost its undercarriage and came to rest, bursting into flames. All crew members escaped uninjured while the airplane was destroyed by fire.

Crashed in unknown circumstances in an open field in Halam while engaged in a navigation training exercise. All seven crew members were killed.

The airplane departed RAF Elsham Wolds at 2040LT on April 9 on an operation to Duisburg. While returning to base the following night and flying in the vicinity of Alkmaar, in the Netherlands, it was badly shot about by a German fighter and crash landed near RAF Bodney. An air gunner was killed.
