Circumstances:
The airplane departed RAF Pocklington at 1732LT on an operation to Stuttgart. About two hours later, after passing the French coast, the crew apparently attempted an emergency landing for unknown reasons when the airplane crashed in a field located in Hangest-sur-Somme, 19 km northwest of Amiens, bursting into flames. All seven crew members were killed.
