The airplane departed RAF Syerston at 2230LT on July 8 on an operation to Cologne. While returning to base the following night and passing over Belgium, it was shot down by a German fighter and crashed in Oupeye, killing the entire crew.

The airplane departed RAF Elvington at 2311LT on June 11 on an operation to Düsseldorf. It was shot down by a German fighter and crashed in Oupeye, 9 km northeast of Liege. An air gunner was killed and six other crew members became PoW.
