Harwell AFB

While cruising in low visibility due to heavy rain falls, the Wellington collided with a RAF Supermarine Spitfire registered R6686. Both aircraft crashed in a field located in Broadwater, Cold Ashton, north of Bath. All seven occupants in both aircraft were killed. They were engaged in a training flight on behalf of the 15th OTU.

The airplane departed RAF Harwell on a cross-country night training exercise. While cruising southeast of Northampton at an altitude of 800-1,000 feet, the airplane collided with a RAF De Havilland DH.82 registered N6968 and carrying a crew of two. Following the collision, both airplanes dove into the ground and crashed between Denton and Paddington. Both aircrafts were destroyed and all 10 occupants were killed.

The airplane departed RAF Harwell on a navigation exercise to RAF Abingdon. On approach, the left engine failed and the airplane crashed near the airbase. All six crew members were killed.

While returning to base at night, the crew encountered severe icing conditions, causing an engine to stop. The captain reduced his altitude and attempted a wheels up landing on Rhos Fawr, Wales. The aircraft was damaged beyond repair in the emergency landing and all six crew members were rescued.

Shortly after take off from RAF Harwell, while climbing, the twin engine aircraft went out of control and crashed 4 km from the airbase. There were no casualties.

During the take off run, a tyre burst. The pilot lost control of the aircraft that veered off runway before colliding with a heap of sand. While all six crew members were unhurt, the aircraft was damaged beyond repair.

The airplane departed RAF Harwell to bomb the Sesto Calande aircraft factory. It is believed that it was shot down at Valera, near Varese. All five crew members were killed.

The crew was performing a local training mission out from RAF Harwell on behalf of the 15th OTU. On final approach, while making a last turn to join the approach path, the aircraft stalled and crashed in a field. All three occupants were killed.

After liftoff, the aircraft was unable to gain height, stalled and crashed, bursting into flames. All five crew members were injured and the aircraft was destroyed.

The crew was involved in a night training exercise at RAF Harwell. After completing few circuits in the vicinity of the airbase, the crew initiated a new approach procedure. The student pilot at controls overshot the flare and the instructor took over the control and landed. After a course of some 150 metres, the aircraft veered off runway and collided with a pile of sandbags. While all three occupants were unhurt, the aircraft was considered as damaged beyond repair.
