Cottesmore AFB

The crew was performing a local training flight at RAF Cottesmore. While in the circuit, the airplane stalled and crashed 3 km northeast from the airfield. All four crew members were killed.

The airplane departed RAF Cottesmore 2353LT on July 31 on an operation to Düsseldorf. While returning to base the following night, it was shot down by a German fighter and crashed near Oisterwijk. The observer was killed while three other crew members became PoW.

The airplane departed RAF Cottesmore at 0001LT on an operation to Düsseldorf. Over Cologne, it was shot down by the German Flak and crashed in Burgmauer, in the city center. Three crew members were killed and the air gunner became PoW.

The airplane departed RAF Cottesmore at 2252LT on June 25 on an operation to Bremen. Approaching the German coast, it was shot down by the German Flak and crashed on Borkum Island. Three crew members were killed and a fourth became PoW.

The airplane departed RAF Cottesmore at 2310LT on May 30 on an operation to Cologne. Over the target area, it was badly shot about by the German Flak and the crew was able to return to England on one engine. On approach to Horsham, Norwich, the airplane' speed was too high so the pilot decided to go around. At a height of 500 feet, the remaining engine failed. The airplane stalled, collided with houses and crashed in Hellesdon, in the western suburbs of Norwich. Two crew were killed and two others were seriously injured.

The airplane departed RAF Cottesmore at 2306LT on May 30 on an operation to Cologne. While returning to base the following night, the crew encountered poor weather and low visibility. After emerging from clouds, the pilot saw another airplane, (a Halifax registered W1013 with six crew on board) but this was too late. Both aircraft collided and crashed near March. Three crew members on board the Hampden were killed while a fourth crew as injured. On board the Halifax, two crew were killed and four others were injured.

The airplane departed RAF Dalton at 2222LT on May 19 to drop leaflets over Vichy. While returning to base the following night, the crew diverted to RAF Cottesmore where the airplane crashed upon landing. All six crew members were rescued.

The airplane departed RAF Cottesmore on a night high level bombing exercise with a crew of four on board. In the early morning, it entered an uncontrolled descent and crashed less than a mile north of Pinchbeck. All four crew members were killed.
