Circumstances:
The four engine airplane departed Trondheim-Værnes Airport on a reconnaissance flight over the western part of Iceland. Intercepted by two USAAF P-38 Lightning, it was shot down and crashed on the western slope of Kleppatagl (407 metres high) located in Arnarvatnsheiði. The airplane disintegrated on impact and all seven crew members were killed.
