Circumstances:
The airplane departed RAF Middleton St George at 2142LT on August 11 on an operation to Mainz. Approaching the target area, it was shot down by a German fighter and crashed in Igstadt, about 11 km northeast of Mainz. Both air gunners were killed and five others became PoW.
