Circumstances:
The airplane departed Staraya Toropa on a supply mission to Selyavshchina, carrying one passenger, six crew members and a load consisting of ammunition and explosives for a total weight of 2,000 kilos. The crew flew over the enemy line at an altitude of 2,700 metres then continued to the dropping area. After three successful drops, the crew was preparing for a fourth pass when, at an altitude of 200 metres, the airplane was attacked by a German fighter. The captain and other occupants were seriously injured while the copilot, seized with panic, left his seat. Despite the situation, the pilot was able to make an emergency landing. The airplane belly landed in an open field and slid for few dozen metres before coming to rest, bursting into flames. All seven occupants were injured and the airplane was destroyed.
