Circumstances:
Few minutes after takeoff from Kaneohe Bay NAS, en route to Alameda NAS, a fire erupted on board. The crew attempted an emergency landing when the seaplane (FAW-2) crashed into the sea few hundred metres off Makapuu Point, Oahu. Six crew members were rescued while both pilots were killed.
