Circumstances:
The pilot departed RAF Spitalgate on a 2-hour solo training flight. About an hour into the mission, while taking off, the airplane suffered an engine failure and crashed at the airbase. The pilot was killed.

Failure of one or both engines due to over temperature and possible or oiling of spark plugs due to a prolonged period of idling in hot weather on the ground.
