The aircraft was performing an illegal flight with 1,500 kg of cocaine on board. While flying in low visibility due to bad weather conditions and night, the crew elected to divert to Utila airport. On descent, both engines quite and the aircraft crashed in a wooded area. One crew member was killed.

Circumstances:
On landing on runway 02, the aircraft did not decelerate as expected and overrun. It came onto a street, destroyed several cars and came to rest in a wall. The captain and two passengers were killed as two other people in ground vehicles. At least 81 passengers were injured. The aircraft was destroyed. At the time of the accident, the tropical depression called Alma hung over the city with high winds and strong rains.

The crew was flying from La Ceiba to Costa Rica. Six minutes after takeoff, he made a radio contact with ATC and few minutes later, this contact was lost. Air and ground Search & Rescue were performed for few days without any success. Both occupants were believed to be dead. The aircraft probably crashed in an impenetrable jungle.
