Circumstances:
While descending to Van-Ferit Melen Airport, the crew encountered poor weather conditions with a limited visibility due to heavy snow falls. While on a VOR/DME approach to runway 03, the crew was unable to establish a visual contact with the runway and decided to initiate a go-around. Due to general conditions at destination, the captain decided to return to Ankara but eventually attempted a second approach. Few minutes later, as the visibility dropped to 300 metres, the crew was forced to initiate a second go-around. During the third approach, the crew failed to realize his altitude was too low when the aircraft struck a snow covered hill (70 metres high) located about 4 km from runway 03 threshold and crashed. Five crew members and 52 passengers were killed while 19 other occupants were seriously injured. The aircraft was destroyed. At the time of the accident, the visibility was below minimums.
Probable cause:
The crew continued the approach in below minima weather conditions and descended below the minimum safe altitude until the aircraft contacted the ground and crashed.

Circumstances:
The four engine airplane was engaged in a round trip from Incirlik AFB via Sinop, Erzurum and Erzincan. On the leg from Erzurum to Erzincan, while cruising at an altitude of 20,000 feet, the airplane went out of control, dove into the ground and disintegrated in a snow covered field located in Gevenlik, about 68 km northeast of Erzincan Airport. The aircraft was totally destroyed and all 27 occupants were killed.
Probable cause:
It was determined that the engine n°4 detached in flight, hitting the engine n°3 and the wingtip fuel tank. This caused the wing to detach as well and the airplane became uncontrollable. It is believed that the engine n° 4 engine detached due to the loss of a nut. The force created by the vibrations caused the engine spar to brake off. The reason of the nut missing could not be determined.

Circumstances:
The four engine aircraft was performing a cargo flight from London to Bahrain with an intermediate stop at Ankara Airport, carrying a crew of 12 and various goods. At 0814LT, the airplane passed over Gemerek at an altitude of 11,500 feet then Elaziğ at 0859LT at 13,500 feet. The crew reported his position over Muş 27 minutes later and the contact was lost at 0946LT. SAR operations were conducted and the wreckage was found six days later on the slope of the Mt Süphan Dağı (4,158 metres high) located to the north of the Van Lake. The airplane disintegrated on impact and all 12 occupants were killed.
Probable cause:
The aircraft, flying on instruments, drifted north of its normal track because of strong winds and crashed into the mountain. Contributing factors were:
- The winds were stronger than forecast,
- An accurate bearing could not be obtained at Muş, and Van had not been checked,
- Sub-normal temperatures would result in a high indicated altimeter reading,
- Calculations on the flight and contacts with beacons were not coordinated and controlled.
