En route to Srinagar, the aircraft encountered heavy turbulences when the left wing detached. Out of control, the airplane dove into the ground and crashed in a field located about 10 km southeast of Pathankot. All 22 occupants were killed.

During the takeoff roll, the left main tire burst. Severe vibrations caused the left main gear to collapse. The aircraft went out of control and veered off runway before coming to rest. All 23 occupants were uninjured while the aircraft was considered as damaged beyond repair.
Probable cause:
Tire burst and undercarriage collapsed during takeoff.

Few minutes after take off from Karachi Airport, while on a positioning flight to Lahore, the single engine aircraft collided with a Beechcraft E17B Staggerwing also operated by Indian National Airways. Registered VT-AKJ, this second aircraft was carrying a pilot who was approaching Karachi to land at Mauripur Airport. Following the collision, both aircraft dove into the ground and crashed in a field located some 50 km north of Karachi. While the pilot of the Percival, B. D. Sharma, was killed, the pilot of the Beechcraft survived.
