The single engine aircraft was engaged in a military training exercice with 2 pilots and 13 soldiers (paratroopers) on board for a routine local jumping flight. Few minutes after takeoff, the crew decided to return to Aranchi airport due to deteriorating weather conditions. On final approach, patch of fog reduced visibility and the aircraft descended below MDA. It eventually crashed few km from airport. All 15 occupants were killed. To date, it is the worst accident involving a PZL-Mielec AN-2. |
