The runway 09/27 of Lokichogio airport (1,800 metres
long) was blocked by a 748 Air Services' Avro 748 which belly landed
2 hours earlier. On approach, the Lockheed's crew was informed by ATC
that landing was impossible due the previous incident. The crew told
ATC that diverting was also impossible due to low fuel reserve and elected
to land on the remaining runway. The four engine aircraft landed hard
and eventually collided with the Avro 748 registered 5Y-SFE and crashed.
