Shortly after takeoff, the crew elected to return to Miraflores' airport due to engine problem. The aircraft crash-landed in a field near the airport and all occupants evacuated the aircraft before it caught fire. All passengers were soldiers on permission and the DC-3 was chartered by Colombian Army Forces.
