After departure, while climbing to 8'000 feet, the aircraft
was hit by a SAM-7 surface-to-air missile which struck the left wing
and penetrated the n° 1A fuel tank. Fire erupted and a portion of
wing burned. With left engine out of service and hydraulic failure,
the crew elected to return to airport but the first approach was missed
and a go around procedure was performed. Eventually, the aircraft landed
16 minutes later but veered off the left side of the runway, crossed
a soft sand area on 600 meters before coming to rest. Nobody was injured
but the aircraft is written off.
